Instinct is the first production by Man Up Film and also the directorial debut of Halina Reijn. 
Based on a true story about a female psychologist who falls in love with the rapist she is treating in jail. The story takes place within a unique Dutch psychiatric prison system that believes in the rehabilitation of sociopaths.
Instinct premiered at the Film Festival in Locarno, where it won the VARIETY GRANDE PIAZZA AWARD. It has competed at the Toronto Film Festival (world cinema competition), the BFI London (Sutherland competition), Gent, Chicago, and Les Arcs (winner of the Young Audience Award and Cineuropa Award),. It was the FOREIGN LANGUAGE OSCAR SUBMISSION OF THE NETHERLANDS. Recently, it was nominated for Best Debut Film for the European Film Awards 2020 (European Discovery - Prix FIPRESCI).
